Paul Dix BEd (Hons) Cantab
Lead Trainer and Managing Director

Paul Dix is a leading voice in Behaviour Management in the UK and Internationally. He is a trainer with an exceptional reputation for delivering training that promotes real change.

Paul trained at Homerton College, Cambridge and has worked in Primary and Secondary Schools in London, Nuneaton and Birmingham. His work was highlighted by H.M.I. and OFSTED as a key element of the work that led to turning round a school in ‘Special Measures’.

Paul co-founded Pivotal Education in 2001.  As the lead trainer, Paul has been training teachers, advisors, students, mentors, and classroom assistants from early years to adult education. His work on Behaviour and Assessment is being used successfully in schools (mainstream and special), PGCE courses, teacher training programmes and businesses. Paul has designed and implemented training and policy for City Academies (Bristol and Doncaster), Education Action Zones in (Wolverhampton, Bristol, Birmingham, Harwich) and Government initiatives.

His training programmes with schools in crisis have been commended by OFSTED and H.M.I

Paul is author of  the Government's ‘New Deal Mentor Training Programme’. His work has been featured on ITV (Dying to Drive Project) and Teachers' TV. His first book, the 'Pivotal Behaviour Management Handbook', was reviewed in the TES as 'Terrific'. 

Paul is a regular columnist for Teach Primary Magazine, Diadactics World, Teaching Expertise, Teaching Drama has recently been invited to write for the TES. His best selling book, "Taking Care of Behaviour" published by Pearson/Longman in January 2007, has been endorsed by Prof. Tim Brighouse:

'This book is rooted in real experience, not theory. You can smell the classroom between its covers. It will be a powerful aid to teachers at whatever stage of their career. Angus Watson
Sales Manager - UK & International

Angus spent the majority of his career in the City of London as a recruitment consultant and head hunter for financial institutions. He worked in conjunction with main boards and Human Resources departments developing recruitment, staff training and career progression strategies.

In recent years Angus has owned and managed a property company sourcing dream homes for clients abroad. His expertise in this area translated well to a series that he produced for Sky TV.

Angus has been the driving force behind Pivotal Education’s (our sister company) phenomenal growth in the FE sector. His ability to deftly match clients with the right trainers is reflected in the number of long term projects he continues to manage.

 

Hugh Wood BA MEd FCIPD
Office Manager

After gaining a first class degree in Mathematics at Leeds University, Hugh taught in secondary comprehensive schools in Leeds, Basildon and Cambridge. He was appointed as a Senior Lecturer at Homerton College, Cambridge and later became Principal of Coleridge Community College in the city. Particularly interested in the in-service education of teachers, he was appointed as the Cambridgeshire tutor for the 1-year development course for Deputy Heads across East Anglia, run by the Cambridge Institute of Education.

Hugh subsequently left full-time education to set up Cambridge Career Consultants, a successful niche consultancy offering organisations and individuals a range of services including personality assessment, personal career planning, problem solving and mentoring, team building and management training.

Hugh is a fellow of the Chartered Institute for Personnel and development.

 

Ellie Wood BA (Hons), PGCE
Director

Ellie studied Drama and Theatre Arts at Birmingham University, graduating in 1997.  As a director for a youth theatre company in Merseyside she directed large-scale productions.  Ellie has worked extensively with teenagers in America – in a residential summer camp (as Head of Drama and a Senior Counsellor) and as the Teen Counsellor on a cruise ship. 

After finishing her PGCE, Ellie was appointed Head of Drama in a secondary school in Wolverhampton EAZ.  Ellie set up the drama department from scratch in a very challenging environment.  83% of Ellie's first intake of GCSE students achieved grades A*-C.   Ellie sat on the Standardisation committee for the PGCE Secondary (Drama and Music) course at UCE.

Ellie manages bookings and logistics for Pivotal Education. She is the driving force behind Pivotal Training Resources and published schemes.
